Laboratoire d’Informatique pour la Mécanique et les Sciences de l’Ingénieur - LIMSI

The LIMSI (Laboratoire d’Informatique pour la Mécanique et les Sciences de l’Ingénieur) is a CNRS laboratory, which carries out multidisciplinary research in mechanics and chemical engineering, in addition to information and communication science and technology.

The LIMSI researches in Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) are carried out by the VENISE group (http://www.limsi.fr/venise), the principal themes being as follows, using a new Virtual Reality facility (EVE device, cf. Appendix 7.6):

· Distributed architectures for Virtual and Augmented and Mixed Reality,

· Multimodal interaction in virtual environments, which allows the combination of 3D tracking, speech and movement recognition (input multimodality), and supervision of information distribution using multiple modes such as the three motor-sensory channels, visual, haptic and audio (output multimodality),

· Development of new rendering paradigms for each of the three motor-sensory channels,

· Paradigms and metaphors for controlling navigation in collaborative interactions in virtual environments.

At regional level, VENISE leads the DIGITEO "SIMCoD" project on Multimodal and Immersive Collaboration in Virtual Environments. At national level, it was a partner in RNTL “Perf-RV” and “Perf-RV2”, in collaboration with PSA Peugeot Citroën. VENISE was also the leader in the ANR-ARA "CoRSAIRe" project on the immersive and multisensory exploration of large scientific datasets in the area of fluid mechanics and protein-protein rigid docking. VENISE is one of the partners in the ANR-Blanc "EVEILS" project for immersive scientific exploration devoted to education in relativistic physics. At international level, it was the lead CNRS laboratory in the European Network of Excellence known as INTUITION, funded by the 6th FP. Finally, VENISE is a founding member of the EuroVR AFRV national and European associations for the promotion of VR/AR.
